Ingrid Goes West – Movie Review

Rating: A

  • Great performances by Aubrey Plaza, Elizabeth Olsen, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Wyatt Russell & Billy Magnussen. The big standout here is Aubrey Plaza, playing an Instagram addict looking for people to like her. Plaza has given some good comedic performances in the past but here she brings much more then that. Plaza plays a very convincing nut throughout this film, but here she also shows her dramatic chops which look quite promising.
  • Solid direction by Matt Spicer. Spicer really breaks open the psychological look at social media and how it can affect peoples lives.
  • The biggest standout here is the screenplay by David Branson Smith & Matt Spicer. This screenplay has some of the strongest social commentary you’ll hear all year. Both Smith & Spicer also put together some of the best characters of the year from a Instagram addict to a screenwriter obsessed with Batman.

  • The third act gets a little predictable.
